Molecular Biology

Our research focuses on understanding the underlying molecular alterations that might lead to metabolic and endocrinology disorders, including diabetes mellitus, central precocious puberty, congenital hypothyroidism, and thyroid cancers. Other than molecular studies, we also try to unravel the possible risk factors that are involved in the disease pathogenesis process, such as nutrigenomics and oxidative stress.

Our research group always tries to cope with the advanced technologies to achieve our research goals, including Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) platforms, high-performance computing analysis, and etc. One of the ongoing research projects includes the investigation of the role of antioxidative imbalance and molecular alterations in the transformation of benign thyroid goitre to malignant thyroid cancer, in collaboration with the University of Malaya Medical Centre (UMMC). In the future, she wishes to identify the potential medical use of machine learning in thyroid cancer studies and develop a biomarkers panel that might help with thyroid nodule management.
